Gäwa Homeland Learning Centre (2002)

Population: 20 to 45

Location: Elcho Island, 65 km north of Galiwin'ku township.

Building: This school building was constructed in 1992; NT DEET funded the materials while Marthakal Homeland Resource Centre constructed the building.

Comments: Gäwa residents applied to DEET to become an Independent Christian School through the NT Christian Schools Association (NTCSA). The have been very unhappy with the academic outcomes of their students and the resources offered to them as a Homeland Learning Centre. Through the NTCSA they now have a permanent teacher based at Gawa.

Notes: The building is in urgent need of repair. The rafters are like tissue paper and the roof could blow away in a strong wind.
